HICKIES Elastic Lacing System

By November 30, 2012

Follow me on:

""HICKIES is an elastic lacing system that turns any lace-up shoe into a comfortable slip-on.

The saturated color combinations are fabulously pleasing to the eye, the flexible material doesn't restrict motion or rapidly developing feet, one set will last for years . . . there are so many aspects to love.

Here's the biggest reason that I'm a HICKIES fan: the system allows for quick changes.

If you have a no shoes indoors rule at home or school, a child with special needs, multiple kids to get out the door, a preschooler who can't stop wiggling, and/or a big kid who can't be bothered to tie his laces, HICKIES could make a big difference in your daily routine.

Although I like to keep kids in laced shoes when they're learning to tie, I'm all about efficiency before and after that phase.

When my oldest was in preschool, the shoes we put on her feet in the morning stayed on until we picked her up, but my three-year-old changes in and out of her street shoes multiple times a day. Lace-up shoes are not conducive to that routine, so until we got HICKIES, the classic sneakers we had hoped to pass down hadn't been put to much use this year.

My now  second-grader is an old hand at tying, but this year she's able to leave her shoes at the classroom door. Slip-ons allow for less hassle with all of the off-and on, but most have shortcomings when it's time to head outside for recess. Athletic shoes protect her feet from blisters, cold and pesky bits of mulch, and now that she has HICKIES she can pull her sneakers sneakers on and off with ease.

I've included HICKIES among my top picks of stocking stuffers for kids, though it will just as easily qualify as a gift for lace-weary parents. (Psst -- HICKIES comes in one size. Pick up a set for yourself and make the most of precious "me time.")
