Rough and Tumble

At first, Anakin's mom was concerned about the material of the backpack, stating that Anakin's old backpack had thicker material and therefore it must be studier. After taking both backpacks on their hiking trip, she Blackberried me from the mountain to let me know that she changed her mind. She reported that the bag stood up very well to both Anakin's and his brother's boys-will-be-boys rough and tumble. And the boys preferred the Lands' End backpack because it was so much lighter than the other backpack.

Anakin's mom said she already had to wash the backpack since it smelled of the river (I hope none of my Test Drivers went overboard testing out their backpacks!). She was very happy to report that it washed up easily and remained in excellent condition.

Both Test Drivers said there is plenty of room for all their school supplies and other gear. The organizational features are helpful and will keep all their smaller items nicely organized.

Jenna's mom loved the attached, organizer pouch because she thinks it will keep Jenna from losing her lunch money.

At first Jenna and her mom were glad to see that the ClassMate StudyHaul Lunch Bag clipped onto the outside of the backpack, saving room inside the bag for more school supplies, but once they had the bag fully loaded and the lunch bag attached, it hung too low on Jenna's small frame. Jenna is on the small side and Anakin didn't have any problems with this.

Anakin's mom was also happy to see the reflective, safety strips and glow-in-the-dark zipper pulls on both the bag and the lunch bag. She said this is especially important on winter mornings, when kids wait for the bus in the dark.

The Lowdown

Jenna gave her new back-to-school backpack a big thumbs up. She's already packed it for summer camp and is enjoying using it. She likes the color, style and comfort of the bag. It is a touch too big for her, so she and I think it's best suited for a kid 8 and older.

Anakin took his Lands' End backpack on a nice long Test Drive, and boy-oh-boy did he test it. After hours and hours of hiking, he really appreciated the lightness of the backpack. He said that it's so light he's renaming it his "spacebag." His mom, who was at first skeptical of the lightweight material is now a fan. She liked the comfort features, the safety bonus of the reflective strips and glow-in-the-dark zippers, and the sturdiness of the backpack. She said overall it is an "awesome, awesome bag."
