Wunway is an online retail destination with style and substance. I recently spoke with Wunway co-founders Melanie Chu and Nicole Kim about their inspiration for the unique site, and was touched by their connection to their children.
Between the three co-founders (Ella Kim was unable to join us), there are ten children, ranging in age from 15 months to 13 years. The Wunway kids have inspired the company name (Weally!), modeled for the site, and influenced buying and design choices. They have also shaped the Wunway vision, mission and motto.
As an advocate of encouraging kids to develop their own personal style, I love that Wunway is founded on a message of empowerment.
The Wunway motto is "style starts young," and while the styling on the site is especially inspired, any two items would pair well.
Melanie had this to say:
I don't think we take children's clothing too seriously. We know that there are many very nice brands out there, but I think a lot of them are just too serious and a little overpriced. We're trying to do something different where we can just have fun with it -- offer reasonable pricing, and we like to layer, mix and match, differently and uniquely. We don't take it too seriously and we just always try to have a fun time -- it's for children.
Stacking the deck in favor of looks that appeal sets kids up for success. When kids dress themselves in clothes that also meet the approval of adults, they'll pick up on that positive reinforcement, and continue having fun with fashion.
