I <3 Valentine's Day. Just as the kids are getting antsy as they come down from their holiday present high, I sneak in a love happy to make the final descent to normalcy a little easier. Practical and appreciation-hungry mom that I am, I like to make the most of every giving opportunity by gifting my kids with things that they actually need.
In this house, gifts always seem to elicit a more dramatic response when presented as part of the pomp and circumstance of a holiday. So instead of plastic trinkets or plush hearts with legs, I'll pick up a cute top or choice accessory, set it out with a handmade Valentine, and bask in the glory of recognition.
Among other things on my growing list of Valentine's gifts for girls, I'm eyeing an Altruette heart charm that reminds my daughter to love and stand up for herself and others, a slew of Ban.do merchandise that can dress up Plain Jane sneakers and brighten bad hair days, and an assortment of temporary tattoos. Okay, so rub on tats aren't exactly a necessity, but Tattly Temporary Tattoos are "Designy," as they say, and they really can make an outfit.
Is Valentine's Day big in your house? How does your family celebrate?
