While I don't advocate becoming a slave to the fads of fashion, I do believe that seasonal trends can inspire and motivate. As adults, we all tend to fall back on a few favorite wardrobe items, and I've found this to be true with my kids as well. Awareness of changing trends opens one's eyes to new combinations and styling options.
Try using the change of season as an opportunity to shop your closet. Look to current trends for inspiration and pair items you might not have considered before. Increase the rotation of on-trend pieces, then move them back into background garments when the season changes. As trends come and go, your entire wardrobe will get more wear.
As you address your own wardrobe at the change of each season, consider reorganizing your kids' clothes a bit. When you're shifting clothes according to climate, move a few on-trend items to the front of the closet and the top of the drawers. This is also a great time to pull out any outgrown or worn pieces. In addition to reducing clutter and maximizing the functionality of your child's wardrobe, the process will facilitate the creative process of dressing as a means of expression.
