Kids grow erratically. Since I never know when mine are on the cusp of another growth spurt, I prefer to buy shoes as needed. Clothing sizes are pretty flexible, so I feel okay stocking up on basics ahead of time, but shoes need to fit precisely. Footwear that is too short, too long, too narrow or too wide can stress the body from feet to spine.
The old fit trick of measuring out a thumb tip of extra length beyond the foot usually provides at least a few months of comfortable wear. If you buy shoes now, they should fit throughout the coming season, so for those of us entering winter, 'tis the time for boots!
Whether you're in the market for boots that will look sharp with a blazer or keep him warm throughout hours of snow play, you're in luck. Boys and girls have great options this year, from cherry red desert boots to black pull-on neoprene boots, form and function coexist.
Will your kids be wearing new boots soon? In honor of Halloween, I've pulled together 13 pairs of cool boots and high-tops for boys, many of which are just as well suited for the girls. Let me know what you think.
