4th of July Fashion

""With the U.S. holiday sandwiched in the middle of the week, patriotic festivities are stretching from one weekend to the next. We've already been to a concert and walked in a little parade, and we've still got two parties and a fireworks show on the agenda. My seven-year-old is very into looking the part when it comes to such fetes, but I'm not so into branded holiday wear. Instead of a t-shirt printed with "Happy 4th of July," I prefer a nod to the occasion put together with well-designed pieces that can be worn in other ways.

This apron-front dress from Nico Nico is one of my top picks. Wear it alone for breezy cool, or layer over a top for more coverage and contrast. When temperatures drop, add a jacket and boots, or opt for a softer look with a cardigan and leggings. For more versatile options, check out my list of 10 items that fit the Independence Day theme, but are also wearable long after the fireworks have faded.

What are you doing for the 4th, and what will your kids be wearing?
