Did you know that May is Skin Cancer Awareness Month in the US? As the days heat up for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, style-conscious parents are wise to remember that fashion is as much about function as form.
When heading outside with the kids, dermatologists suggest sun-protective clothing and accessories:
- Wide Brimmed Hats - Big, floppy hats are a definite "do" this season. Don't you love it when a trend is practical?
- UV Blocking Sunglasses - Hip shades are always in style, and several brands now cater to kids with features like adjustable velcro straps and BPA-free flexible rubber.
- Full Cover with Bright or Dark Colors - While it sounds counterintuitive to wear dark, densely woven long sleeves on a hot day, modern fabrics and construction techniques have made doing so more comfortable.
Although functional, wearing such a get-up wasn't always the cool thing to do. These days, the form side of the fashion equation is positive, too. Performance wear is more stylish than ever, with design options to suit all tastes. Now that kids have such a wide selection to choose from, they're more likely to accept UPF clothing as a regular player in their summer wardrobe.
